The film was made famous by the excellent portrayal of a eunuch Maharani by Sadashiv Amrapurkar who is an evil brothel madam which employs many girls including the characters of Pooja Bhatt and Neelima Azim. Sanjay Dutts character who is a taxi driver meets Pooja before she gets bought by Maharani. His friend Deepak Tijori is in love with Neelima Azeems character who is also under her employ. The story shows how Sanjay and Pooja come together. The title Sadak is Urdu for Road and signifies the place where the poor Sanjay/Deepak live.
